Ah, apparently nobody at lunch was familiar with the Tommy Westphall Universe Hypothesis.

Briefly - the final episode of the television series St. Elsewhere seemed to imply that the entire series took place in the imagination of an autistic child, Tommy Westphall.  But, since characters from St. Elsewhere have appeared alongside characters from other TV shows, do these other shows also exist in Tommy's imagination?
