Cute. Not sure when it happened, but instead of using the normal iconography of an open or closed padlock to indicate something is being transferred using TLS/SSL, Gnome has updated its security status icons to resemble shields of a sort you might see in a Zelda game.
The wooden sheild (low) appears on normal websites, and the metallic shield (medium) on https sites. I've not seen the Royal
shield (high) in use yet.
